TL;DR: The Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT) is the common name for the aptitude tests that admit students to five-year Integrated Programmes in Management at IIMs straight after Class 12. IIM Indore held its 2026 test on 4 May 2026 as a two-hour paper in three 40-minute sections, according to the IIM Indore Admission Procedure for the IPM 2026-31 Batch. Students in their Class 12 year can apply, subject to each institute's rules on age and marks. Preparing for IPMAT from Class 11 is sensible when school marks stay first, because IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu both counted Class 10 and Class 12 marks in their 2026 merit lists. Every figure in this guide belongs to the 2026 cycle, so read the current official notice before applying.
What is IPMAT, and which IIMs does it lead to?
IPMAT is an entrance test that a student takes in the Class 12 year to enter an Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). The official IIM Indore notice calls its paper the IPM Aptitude Test, or IPM AT. Students, parents and teachers shortened that to IPMAT, and the short name stuck.
- Integrated Programme in Management (IPM)
- a five-year management programme at an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) that a student joins after Class 12 instead of after graduation.
"IPMAT" covers three separate tests
One name hides three different papers. IIM Indore conducts its own Aptitude Test for its own programme. A second paper, the IPM Aptitude Test of IIM Rohtak, examines aptitude, logical reasoning and proficiency in English.
JIPMAT (Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test) is the third: the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts it for the five-year IPM at IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu, as the NTA notice of 16 April 2026 records. Different bodies run these tests, so a family targeting more than one institute should plan for more than one application and more than one exam day.
The degree depends on the institute
Two degrees await IIM Indore's 2026-31 batch on successful completion: a Bachelor of Arts (Foundations of Management) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), under the Dual Degree Programme. Do not assume that every IIM awards the same pair. Ask each institute which degrees it awards, and on what conditions a student moves into the MBA years.
Who can apply: the 2026 eligibility rules, institute by institute
A student can apply to IIM Indore in the year of the Class 12 board exam. For the 2026 cycle, IIM Indore accepted candidates who had passed Standard XII in 2024 or 2025 or were appearing in 2026, and who were born on or after 1 August 2006 (1 August 2001 for SC, ST and PwD candidates). Those rules come from the admission procedure IIM Indore published for domestic applicants.
Date of birth, year of passing and, at some institutes, minimum marks or a mathematics requirement decide who is eligible. The table sets the 2026 rules side by side.
| Institute | Test used in 2026 | Minimum Class 10 and 12 marks in 2026 | Final merit weights in 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| IIM Indore | Its own IPM Aptitude Test, held on 4 May 2026 | Check the current notice | Aptitude Test Score 65, Personal Interview 35 |
| IIM Rohtak | Its own IPM Aptitude Test | 60% for General, EWS and NC-OBC; 55% for SC, ST and DAP | Aptitude Test Score 55%, Personal Interview 15%, Standard X 10%, Standard XII 20% |
| IIM Jammu | JIPMAT, conducted by NTA, held on 7 June 2026 | 60%; 55% for SC, ST and PwD | JIPMAT percentile 70%, Class X 15%, Class XII 15% |
| IIM Bodh Gaya | JIPMAT, conducted by NTA, held on 7 June 2026 | Check the current notice | Check the current notice |
Where a cell says "check the current notice", the figure was not confirmed against an official document for this guide. A gap serves a family better than a guess. IIM Jammu's row comes from the IIM Jammu IPM Admission Policy for 2026-31, which adds two conditions on year of passing: Class XII passed in 2024 or 2025 or appearing in 2026, and Class X passed in 2022 or later. The IIM Rohtak figures apply to its IPM Batch 08 (2026-31).
Mathematics is a condition at IIM Shillong
A candidate for IIM Shillong's 2026-31 IPM should have studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics as a subject in Class XI and Class XII. For a Class 11 family, no other rule in this guide matters more, because a student chooses subjects once. Whatever the test score, a student who leaves mathematics out in Class 11 does not meet the condition stated on the IIM Shillong IPM admission process page.
IIM Indore's 2026 test ran three 40-minute sections
Three sections made up IIM Indore's 2026 Aptitude Test: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) and Verbal Ability (MCQ). Each section ran for 40 minutes, which made a two-hour paper. Quantitative Ability therefore took 80 of the 120 minutes, so a student who avoids mathematics gives up two-thirds of the test time.
In the 2026 IIM Indore IPM Aptitude Test, each question carried 4 marks and a wrong answer lost 1 mark, except in the Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) section, which had no negative marking, according to the .
Syllabus in outline: sections, not chapters
Official notices describe each test by its sections, which at IIM Indore means Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. IIM Rohtak says its test examines aptitude, logical reasoning and proficiency in English. JIPMAT 2026 was a computer-based test of multiple choice questions in English, lasting 150 minutes.
This guide prints no question counts, total marks or chapter lists, because none of those was confirmed against an official document. Treat any chapter-by-chapter IPMAT syllabus as someone's reading of past papers unless the institute's own notice carries it.
Board marks count towards merit at IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu
School marks carried 30% of the final merit list at both IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu in 2026. The IIM Rohtak IPM Admission page gives the split as Aptitude Test Score 55%, Personal Interview 15%, Standard X marks 10% and Standard XII marks 20%. At IIM Jammu, JIPMAT percentile carried 70%, with Class X and Class XII marks at 15% each. Only two components entered IIM Indore's 2026 final selection: Aptitude Test Score at 65 and Personal Interview at 35.
For a Class 11 student, part of that arithmetic is already settled. Class 10 marks are fixed, so the 10% at IIM Rohtak and the 15% at IIM Jammu were decided before preparation began. What remains open is Class 12, which carried 20% and 15% respectively. An IPMAT plan that costs Class 12 marks works against the student at every institute that counts those marks.
Can you prepare for IPMAT in Class 11? Yes, though the case rests on reasoning
A Class 11 student can prepare for IPMAT, and Class 11 is a reasonable time to begin. The evidence for starting early is thin, and families should know that. No IIM notice we checked publishes results by when a candidate began preparing, and we found no independent study that compares early starters with late ones.
Most advice to begin in Class 11 comes from organisations that sell preparation courses. Accounts from former candidates point both ways: some describe a short burst beside board revision as enough, and others began early and fell away through inconsistency. Our recommendation therefore rests on the official notices and not on a success rate.
Two facts carry it. IIM Indore held its 2026 test on 4 May 2026, as its admission procedure records, so a student who starts only in Class 12 carries board exams and the test in one year. Subject choices also close early: IIM Shillong's mathematics condition covers Class XI as well as Class XII, and a family that learns of it in Class 12 has learnt it too late. Start in Class 11 if the student already keeps up with school work, and wait a term if the jump from Class 10 is proving hard.
School first: a preparation plan for Class 11 and Class 12
A student in Class 11 today will apply under a notice that no institute has written yet. IIM Rohtak says on its IPM Admission page that the admission criteria for IPM Batch 08 (2026-31) may be changed before the declaration of the results, and institutes change their rules from one cycle to the next. The plan below therefore builds general ability first and names no daily hours, because no official notice prescribes any and no published data ties a number of hours to selection.
Read the notices before Class 11 subjects are final. Download the latest admission documents of the institutes your child may target, check the mathematics and marks conditions, and choose subjects with those conditions in view.
Build two habits through Class 11. Practise school-level mathematics in short, regular sittings, and read good English prose every day: editorials, essays and long reports. Judge each week by the questions and passages finished, not by hours at the desk.
Practise one section at a time against the clock from the second half of Class 11. IIM Indore gave each section 40 minutes in 2026, so a 40-minute sitting is the natural unit. Keep an error log and return to it every week.
Put boards first in Class 12 until they end. Class 12 marks carried 20% of merit at IIM Rohtak in 2026 and 15% at IIM Jammu, as the IIM Jammu IPM Admission Policy shows for its own merit list. Hold IPMAT work to a light, fixed slot that stops the skills fading.
Move to full-length papers and interview practice after boards. Sit complete papers at the real timing and review every wrong answer. Practise speaking about school subjects, recent reading and reasons for choosing management, then recheck every rule against the new notice.
How GRJIS runs IPMAT preparation on campus with Nahata Professional Academy
Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) offers the IPMAT, CA and CS Foundation Programme with Nahata Professional Academy as its academic partner. GRJIS introduced the programme for students from Class 11 onwards, so that preparation starts well in advance. Its purpose is plain: students prepare on campus without depending entirely on outside coaching.
Regular academic support sits inside the students' schedule, and Nahata faculty are on campus to take academic sessions for Commerce students. Special sessions and lectures for IPMAT, CA and CS are held on Sundays, and specialised guest faculty from Nahata Professional Academy visit at weekends for focused lectures and guidance. Practice and assessment form part of the preparation, guided by the Nahata faculty.
The regular Nahata support is focused on Commerce students, and the IPMAT pathway can also suit students from other streams, depending on eligibility and subject requirements. GRJIS makes no promise of a score, a rank or a seat: the programme supplies structure and guidance, and the student supplies the consistency. For the timetable, the current intake and fees, speak to the GRJIS admissions team.

Frequently asked questions about IPMAT
- What is IPMAT?
- IPMAT is the Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test, the common name for the entrance tests that admit students to five-year Integrated Programmes in Management at IIMs after Class 12. IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak each run their own test, and the NTA notice of 16 April 2026 assigns JIPMAT to IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu.
- Who is eligible for IPMAT?
- IPMAT eligibility depends on the institute and the year. For IIM Indore's 2026 cycle, a candidate had to have passed Standard XII in 2024 or 2025 or be appearing in 2026, and be born on or after 1 August 2006, with 1 August 2001 as the date for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
- When should I start preparing for IPMAT?
- Start preparing for IPMAT in Class 11 if school marks are steady, and keep the early work light. No published data shows that an early start raises the chance of selection. The practical gain is time: concepts settle in Class 11, which leaves Class 12 for board exams and timed practice.
- Can I prepare for IPMAT in Class 11?
- Yes, a student can prepare for IPMAT in Class 11. Useful Class 11 work is regular school-level mathematics, daily reading in English and, later in the year, timed practice one section at a time. School marks must stay first, because IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu counted Class 12 marks in their 2026 merit lists.
- Do I need Mathematics in Class 11 and 12 for IPMAT?
- Mathematics is a stated condition at IIM Shillong: its IPM admission process page for 2026-31 says a candidate should have studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class XI and Class XII. Quantitative Ability also filled two of the three sections of IIM Indore's 2026 test, so every IPMAT aspirant needs sound school mathematics.
- How much do Class 12 board marks count for IPMAT?
- Class 12 board marks counted for 20% of the final merit list at IIM Rohtak and 15% at IIM Jammu under their 2026 IPM rules. Standard X marks added 10% at IIM Rohtak and 15% at IIM Jammu. IIM Indore's 2026 final selection used two components: Aptitude Test Score (65) and Personal Interview (35).
- Does the GRJIS foundation programme guarantee an IIM seat?
- No. The IPMAT, CA and CS Foundation Programme at GRJIS, run with Nahata Professional Academy, gives students from Class 11 onwards on-campus academic support, Sunday sessions, practice and assessment. GRJIS makes no promise of a score, rank or seat. Selection depends on the student's test, interview and, at some institutes, board marks.
